These guidelines help reviewers produce a quality review that can be published without revisions. Within these guidelines, broad latitude for personal style exists. The general goal of a review is to give readers a good sense of the book and its relevance to JTHS readers.
Reviews should be between four to eight double spaced pages. If a reviewer feels the review should be longer, length should be discussed with the editor prior to writing. Longer reviews comparing and contrasting several similar books are welcomed.
If there is any possibility of a conflict-of-interest, the reviewer should discuss the potential conflict with the editor prior to any agreement to review a book.
The copyright form should be signed and returned immediately to acknowledge receipt of the book Reviews should be completed within 6 weeks from receiving the book and emailed to schoech(atsign)uta.edu. Use your spell and grammar checker before returning the review. Your review may be examined by one or more members of JTHS's editorial board and you may be asked to make revisions. Not providing acceptable revisions may result in the review not being published. Note that you may not have another opportunity to revise the review prior to publication. Several Haworth Press editors will read the review and identify errors and mechanical problems. Reviewers receive one copy of the journal containing their review along with a reprint order form. Publishers receive a copy of the review if their address is included in the review.
