User's perspectives of Information, Liberia Africa
This paper presents user's perspectives of Information technology in Liberia, including problems encountered. Information technology, a means of modern communication is efficient and necessary for information sharing, hence, promoting development democracy etc. However, problems of access, illiteracy to technology use, lack of technical support etc. exist.
Information Technology has evolve as a significant tool in assisting mankind to tackle the difficulties of everyday demands of activism in hostile political environment, degradating environment, and deteriorating economic climate; including information identification, collection, storage, retrival and dissemination. The technologies involved in this presentation are internet/e-mail (wire and wireless access), modems, computers, radio and television, VHF and HF radios, VSAT, VCT (videos) parabolic aerial satellite etc. These technologies are either analog or didgital with majority being digital. Also, these technologies transmit either one and or a combination of the three - voice, data, and image respectively as required. Switching is eminent as a result of interfacing equipment. Suggesting, that the technology involve is mostly electronic. This indicates the necessary use of integrated circuit technology. The terminal equipment in most cases is a computer.
This presentation is intended for policy-makers, engineers (design, research), manufacturers, executives of corporate and non-governmental organization, and the general public. The audience will learn from the experiences of the user's perspective including but not limited to user's know how, difficulties and or constraints, innovative, current and future need in Information Technology use, reality on the ground, policy frame-work etc. Similarly, the impact socially and economically will be learnt, including shortcomings etc.
