Technology Application Paper,  Part A:  Analysis

This assignment allows students to explore the data/information/knowledge underlying a significant human service decision or situation of their choice. Chapters 7 and 8 of the text are particularly relevant to this assignment. The paper should focus entirely on the decision or situation. No discussion of potential or proposed solutions should be included. Consider this task similar in scope to the task of assessing a client.  You should indicate that the analysis is from a technology perspective, i.e., technology will be given a priority in the solution paper to follow.  The checklist is below presents the criteria that will be used to grade the paper.

Students will prepare a 5-10 page paper (single spaced, well formatted excluding references and cover page) on the assessment.  Use APA format for the reference list.  A form for developing a draft Part A, analysis paper is available.  The paper may be emailed to the instructor or published to the student's homepage with notification of the link to the instructor. If the analysis is done by a group, 5-10 pages per group member is expected along with a contribution form for the group.  A group contribution form is not required if group members indicate on the paper that individual grades are desired and if the contribution of each group member is clearly identified.   If the individual contributions are not easily identified, then an individual contribution form is required.

The instructor will provide consultation on the analysis topic via telephone conversation and comments on the analysis paper outline submitted via email on the due date in the syllabus. Students are expected to use computer writing tools, e.g., outliners, spell and grammar checkers.

A typical outline might be as follows. Note however, a traditional approach may not be the best for all analyses.  Also, you may want to format the paper for presentation via the Web rather than as a traditionally submitted paper.

1.  Introduction

2.  Problem/situation definition

3.  Analysis of the problem/situation (this is the most important and should be the longest part of your paper)

4.  Results of your assessment in terms of client/agency/situation needs and strengths

5.  Conclusion

6.  References
