The UT-Arlington Mathematics Teacher Preparation
Academy is a multi-year project that began in Fall 2009 serving over 60
participants. The UT-Arlington MTPA is a partnership between UT-Arlington and
Fort Worth Independent School District. Arlington ISD is also a major partner
in this project. The Academy also targets participants from other high-need
districts [districts with 50% or more students classified as “at-Risk”] in
accordance with funding guidelines from THECB. The Academy consists of three
cohorts in two components: Fall 2009-Summer 2011 Program: ¨ Preservice Component: ¤ Supports a
cohort of undergraduate students seeking mid-level mathematics/science
certification ¨ Inservice Components: ¤ Supports a
cohort primarily comprised of Fort Worth ISD K-8 Mathematics Coaches in
pursuing a M. Ed in Curriculum and Instruction by providing 18 hours of
graduate-level mathematics for K-8 Teaching ¤ Supports a
cohort primarily from Fort Worth and Arlington ISDs in pursuing a Master of
Arts in Mathematics by providing 24 hours of graduate-level mathematics for
secondary mathematics teaching Summer 2011-Fall
2012 Program: ¤ Inservice Components: ¤ Supports a
cohort primarily comprised of Fort Worth ISD K-8 Mathematics Coaches in
pursuing up to 18 graduate credits to complete an M. Ed in Curriculum and
Instruction with an emphasis in K-8 Mathematics Education ¤
Supports a cohort primarily from
Fort Worth and Arlington ISDs in pursuing up to 9 hours to complete a Master
of Arts in Mathematics. |
