The requirements for the Master of Arts degree are 30 hours of graduate courses from the Department of Mathematics and a 3-hour project.

Admission Requirements: (see UTA Graduate School Admissions)

• For unconditional admission, there are two ways to qualify:
• Option 1 Requirements (with GRE)
•  B.S. or B.A. degree with at least 21 hours of Mathematics coursework and GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale,
• A minimum total combined score of 1000 on the verbal and quantitative portions of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), and
• Three favorable letters of recommendation from people familiar with the applicant's academic work and/or professional work.
• Option 2 Requirements (without GRE)
• B.S or B.A degree,
• Certified to teach mathematics at the Secondary Level (Secondary Mathematics Certification).
• Three favorable letters of recommendation from people familiar with the applicant's academic work and/or professional work.
  
• Applicants who do not meet the requirements for unconditional admission may be considered, after further review, for admission on a probationary basis.

Other Options:

• Those who do not wish to pursue a graduate degree but would like to enroll in Master of Arts graduate courses may apply for Special Student status (see also link to FAQ’s from the Graduate School’s webpage for prospective students).
  
  
• Up to 18 hours of mathematics courses offered in the Master of Arts in Mathematics program may be applied toward the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction (M.Ed) in Mathematics Education degree program.
  
  
• Up to 12 hours of mathematics courses offered in the Master of Arts in Mathematics program may be applied toward the Master of Education in Teaching (M.Ed.T.) degree program.
  
  
• Up to 9 hours of mathematics courses offered in the Master of Arts in Mathematics program may be applied toward UTA’s Certificate in Mathematics Education Program.
