UT-Arlington Mathematics Teacher Preparation Academy*

About the UT-Arlington MTPA:

The UT-Arlington Mathematics Teacher Preparation Academy is a 2-year project that will begin in Fall 2009. The Academy consists of

Mid-level Math/Sci Scholarshipsa scholarship program to support 15 undergraduates pursuing a mid-level certification in mathematics/science,

Master of Arts in Mathematics Componenta program to support 25 secondary teachers from high-need school districts [districts with 50% or more students classified "at-Risk"] in pursuing 24 hours of graduate-level mathematics toward a Master of Arts in Mathematics degree for secondary teachers, and

M.Ed. K-8 Mathematics Componenta program to support 25 Fort Worth ISD K-8 mathematics coaches in pursuing 18 hours of graduate-level mathematics for K-8 mathematics teaching.

The UT-Arlington Mathematics Teacher Preparation Academy (UT-Arlington MTPA) is under the direction of Dr. James A. M. Epperson. Co-directors for the project are Dr. Christopher Kribs Zaleta and Dr. Theresa Jorgensen.

The secondary mathematics graduate component application materials are available, please click here!

Note that to complete the application process:

  • Download the required Signature Form either for FWISD teachers or for non-FWISD teachers and fax a copy (include a coversheet) to Dr. James Epperson at (817) 272-5802 by July 27, 2009 and present the original on the first day of the program should your application be accepted.

In addition:

  • Provide your district mathematics department with a letter of intent to participate in this program (if you are a FWISD or AISD teacher).
     
  • Complete an application to the UTA Graduate School. (Do not pay the application fee until your application to the UT Arlington Mathematics Teacher Preparation Academy is accepted.)

      NOTE that most applicants use "Option 2" by providing evidence of secondary mathematics certification in lieu of a GRE score.
