Student Checkout Questions

How do I checkout materials?

Students can checkout materials for their "teach" the following ways:

1.  Get a form from the UTeach main office located in Science Hall, room 224 and pick up the form. See Campus Map.

2.  Request and submit materials online Here.

How do I find out what materials are available to check out?

If you would like a tour of what materials we have, please stop by the UTeach main office in Science Hall, room 224. See Campus Map. Our staff will be happy to show you what supplies we offer and help you get a good idea of what you may require for your teach. It helps if you have an idea of the topic you will be teaching so we can direct you to those materials.

What if I need materials that you don’t have?

Requests for materials that we do not currently have on stock will require approval before purchasing them. If the materials will be used by other students and the cost can be justified, we will purchase them for you, as long as your lesson plan has been approved. However; if the materials are too costly and will only be used during your “teach”, they may be denied. Each situation will be carefully considered on an individual basis.

NOTE: Before any materials can be purchased, your lesson plan must be approved by your master teacher.

How soon can I get materials?

A two business day advanced notice is required for all requests, however; students are encouraged to check out materials as soon as possible in order to make sure the materials are available. Due to the high volume of requests, the office will honor on a “first come first serve” basis. Refer to the checkout guide below.

NOTE: If you have a situation which doesn’t allow for the two day advanced notice, you must speak with your master teacher. Even with an exception, it is not guaranteed that you will receive the materials you need. This is why it is imperative that you allow sufficient time for your materials to be gathered instead of waiting until the last minute.

What if I requested materials but my pick-up date changed?

Please notify our office if you have any change to your original materials request. Otherwise, your materials may be put away inadvertently. Our interns constantly review the pick-up dates on requests and they have been instructed to put away any materials past the pick-up date so they can be available for someone else. Please make sure to communicate all changes with our office.

What if another group wants to use the same materials?

Even if another group wants to use the same materials as you, both groups must fill out a request form separately. Indicate the situation in the “Special Instructions” portion of the printed or online form so that our kit managers know what’s going on. Please do not just pass your materials to someone else to use because you will be responsible for those items. Contact our office at (817) 272-0796 or submit your question Here.

If I need copies made, what’s the procedure?

Copies can be made a number of ways:

  •  Go to the UTeach main office located in Science Hall, Room 224 to request your copies. See Campus Map.
  • If submitting your request online, you can upload up to four files. Make sure to indicate “Copies of [name of file]” in the “Item” section of the “Student Material Request Form”. List the number of copies desired in the “Quantity” section.
  • If submitting by attaching PDF to email, simply attach your files you would like copied to that same email. Just like above, you need to indicate the copy name and quantity in your request.

NOTE: For special printing instructions such as front and back, colored, stapled, etc, make sure to indicate that on the “Special Instructions” portion of either the printed or online version of the form.

What if I have special requests?

There is a section on both the printed and online version of the “Material Request Form” where you can put special requests. Keep in mind, depending on the workload of our kit managers, some special requests may not be able to be accommodated.

When should I pick up my materials?

Ideally, you want to pick up your materials at least one day before your teach so you can feel comfortable with them and practice beforehand. When you wait until the last minute, it creates undue stress on everyone, including you. Sometimes, this is not feasible if we have a limited supply of an item that someone else is using.

Where do I pick up my materials?

Once approved, you will need to go to SH 228 (or SH 224 if the door is closed) to pick up your materials between the hours of 8am – 5pm Monday thru Friday.  Please make sure to check your materials carefully to ensure everything is there. If you are missing any item or have an incorrect item, it is your responsibility to notify us immediately. In addition, you will be required to sign a form acknowledging your receipt of the materials.

Where do I return my materials?

Return materials to the UTeach main office located in Science Hall, room 224. All non-consumed materials must be returned clean and ready for the next person to use.

What if I used up some or all the materials during my teach?

Materials that are used up or consumed will not need to be returned, however; please make sure to notify our staff of any items consumed so we can replenish those supplies for the next person. However; if you only used some of the material, please return any unused portion even if it is a consumable.

What if I want to practice with the materials beforehand?

Practicing before your teach is always a good idea, however; the best way to do this is to request your materials well in advance. That way you can practice your materials before your teach to make sure everything works properly.

Are there any additional resources I can use to help me?

Our kit managers also serve as lesson plan assistants and can provide constructive feedback to help you improve your lesson. They are not there to do your lesson for you but rather give you advice during the planning process. To get assistance with your lesson, go to SH 228 or SH 224 if the door is closed. Hours vary each semester.

NOTE: Lesson plan assistants are only an added resource and should not take the place of any instruction given by your master teacher.
