News for CoB Web Maintainers

June 16, 2015 - Updates were made to the top navigation bar on the CoB Dean's site. HTML coding was sent to the six academic departments for their Web Maintainers to use to update all top navigation bars on their respective websites to match the Dean's top navigation bar.

March 25, 2015 - Additional standards were added to the design of the body of the webpage such that a colored background box can be shown on the body of the page if designed within standards given. See CoB Department Home Page and Secondary Page: > Body of webpage.

March 24, 2015 - Email was sent out to the six academic departments in the College of Business requesting that all business websites be updated to show new top navigation bar that was attached to the email.

This request was made in accordance with the College of Business’ goal to maintain a consistency of basic information and appearance among all websites on the CoB domains using standardized templates that were chosen by the administration of the college. There were a number of updates that were made to the navigation bar including new links for business Graduation Requirements and business Commencement Ceremony.

May 8, 2014 - Email request was sent out to Web Maintainers and Administrative personnel in all six academic departments concerning the following issue. Some of our web users are having problems with the top navigation bar and the left navigation bar not working correctly on our respective business websites when they choose to address our webpages with “https” (using SSL) rather than “http.” Due to the coding we all have in place, IE, FireFox, and Chrome are all rendering the jQuery slide-up/slide-down function inoperable when “https” is used. To correct this problem, please change the following line of coding in each one of your respective departmental webpages:
From (enclosed within script tags):
script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js"

To (enclosed within script tags):
script type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js"

This should prevent any further problems with the navigation when the web user accesses our webpages using “https.”

November 4, 2013 - Email request was sent out to Web Maintainers and Administrative personnel in all six academic departments to please update the masthead with a new image that was attached to the email. Also attached was a one-line coding change to be made in the css/global.css file. This was requested because the tagline needed to be changed from "Pursue The World Of Possibility" to "Pursue The Future Of Business." The image and the coding change information is available by emailing the college's Web Developer.

April 9, 2013 - Change Control Request #2 was submitted requesting 1) that the Cascading Style Sheets be changed so that the contrast between the text in the body of each webpage and the background be sharper, making it easier to read and 2) that the font size of the text in the body of the webpage be increased as well.
Both parts of the request have been reviewed.
Part 1: Each CoB department which has implemented their re-skinned website may, if wishing to do so, change their css so that the color of the font in the body of the page is changed from “#808080” to the darker color of “#414141.” Any department which has implemented their re-skinned site is free to stay with the original color of font if they choose to do so. Any mixing of the original font color of #808080 and the new font color of #414141 is not recommended. The coding required for this change is simple and quick, and has been sent to all CoB departments who have completed their re-skin or who are in the process of reskinning.
Part 2: It was requested that the font size of the text in the body of the webpage be increased. It has been decided that the point size of the current text is best for the current template. Since a number of major websites have already been implemented with this size font, it is not prudent at this time to change the font size since it could cause many spacing/wrapping issues that time would not allow to correct. However, the option of using a larger font can certainly be explored at a later date if/when the College of Business decides that a new college template needs to be created.
Appropriate changes to the wording of the standards have been made on the CoB Web Style Guide.

March 6, 2013 - Change Control Request #1 was submitted, reviewed, and approved. The CoB Web Style Guide has been changed in the sub-section entitled "CoB Department Home Page and Secondary Page:"

  • Previous wording:
"Banner below top nav bar on Department Secondary Page: Variance is allowed from page to page within the secondary pages. This area should be used for a basic visual element serving an aesthetic, rather than an informative, purpose."
  • Current wording:
"Banner below top nav bar on Department Secondary Page: Each department will be provided with a customized departmental banner. It is recommended that each department use the customized departmental banner across all secondary pages. Alternatively, a group of non-customized banners will be provided and, within that group, variance is allowed from page to page.
