Business Undergraduate Advising - Overview


ADVISING

  • Prospective Students

    Prospective Business Students:  Freshmen and Transfer business students are encouraged to visit the Prospective Student webpage on this website which provides admission and application information, downloadable degree plans, transfer equivalency guides, mandatory orientation and academic advising information, and more.

    Current UT Arlington students who want to become business majors: These students are encouraged to view the College of Business Admission Requirements and call the Business Advising Center at 817-272-3368 to schedule an advising appointment with a Business Advisor.

  • Business Intended Students

    To ensure that the most accurate information is given, students are required to meet every semester with a Business Advisor. The Advisor can assist with course selection, explaining degree plan requirements, locating essential campus resources, plus other programs and services offered by the College of Business.

  • Declared Major Students

    Although students who are declared business majors are not required to meet with a Business Advisor each semester, they are always welcome to schedule an appointment by calling our receptionist at 817-272-3368. The Business Advisor can assist with course selection, perform degree audits, provide connections to campus resources, and supply information regarding other programs and services offered by the College of Business.

  • Students on Probation, Suspension

    Business Intended students or business majors who are currently on probation or academic suspension are required to meet with a Business Advisor before registering for upcoming semester courses. Learn additional important information about academic status. ONLINE SERVICES

  • GPA Calculations

    A student may calculate their own GPA by using the GPA Calculator and entering courses, credit hours and grades.

    For a semester GPA, enter information that applies to a given semester.

    For the College of Business GPA, enter information for only the courses taken in the college.

    For the cumulative UTA GPA, enter information for all courses taken at UTA.

    In order to determine what grades are needed to raise a grade point average to a certain standard, use the GPA Improvement Calculator.


DROP-OFF SERVICES

  • Degree Worksheet Request / Review of Course Descriptions

    For students not admitted to a degree program:

    Business Intended students (non-declared) who need to request a degree plan for their major, or are submitting course descriptions to be evaluated for use as a specific course on their degree plan, should complete a Degree Worksheet Request and place it in the drop box located in the front office of the Business Advising Center, Business Building, Suite 107. Please allow 3-5 business days for processing.

    The completed request will be filed under the student's last name in the filing cabinet directly beneath the drop box in the front office of the Business Advising Center.

    Copies of degree plan worksheets are provided only at the following times:

    •  New Business-Intended Student;

    •  New Coursework Transferred for a Business-Intended Student; and,

    •  Prospective Business Student.

  • Financial Aid Documents

    Business Intended students (non-declared) who need to request a degree plan for Financial Aid purposes should complete a Degree Worksheet Request and place it in the drop box located in the front office of the Business Advising Center, Suite 107 of the Business Building. Please allow 3-5 business days for processing.

    The completed request will be filed under the student's last name in the filing cabinet directly beneath the drop box in the front office of the Business Advising Center. We do not fax or mail degree worksheets to the Financial Aid office. It is the student's responsibility to make sure the degree worksheet is submitted to the appropriate department by the required deadline.

    Declared Business majors who need to request a review of their UMAP for Financial Aid purposes should complete a Request for UMAP Review and place it in the drop box located in the front office of the Business Advising Center, Suite 107 of the Business Building.

    Once the review has been completed, the student will be notified by email. If the email address is not provided or is unreadable, notice of review completion will be sent to the student's UTA email account. The UMAP is viewable from a student's Service Center in MyMav. Printed UMAPS are not provided. We do not fax or mail UMAPs to Financial Aid. It is the student's responsibility to make sure the UMAP is sbmitted to these departments by the deadline date.

  • Internships

    Undergraduate Business students may earn three hours of credit for an approved Internship in their field of study. The employment position is secured by the student and must be approved by the Internship Coordinator. (An Internship Is Not Required For A Business Degree.)

    Eligibility Requirements for Undergraduate Internship Credit can be viewed on the Business Careers and Internships website.

    At the appropriate time during a semester, Internship Information and Application packets for the upcoming semester are available online and in the front office of the Business Advising Center, Suite 107 of the Business Building.

  • Minors in Business

    If the non-business student has already met with a Business Advisor to complete the "Minor Requirements for a Non-Business Major" form and is returning the form with a signature from their Major Department, the student may place the form in the drop box located in the front office of the Business Advising Center, Suite 107 of the Business Building.

    Students interested in a Minor in Business should schedule an appointment with a Business Advisor by visiting the front office of the Business Advising Center in Suite 107 of the Business Building or calling the receptionist at 817-272-3368.

  • OPT/CPT Forms

    International business students who would like to participate in OPT/CPT must complete the appropriate documents obtained from the Office of International Education in the Swift Center. The completed documents may be placed in the drop box located at the front office of the Business Advising Center, Suite 107 of the Business Building. Please allow 3-5 business days for processing.

  • Request for UMAP Review

    For business students officially admitted to a degree program (declared majors).

    Business students who need to request a review of their UMAP should complete a Request for UMAP Review and place it in the drop box located at the front office of the Business Advising Center, Suite 107 of the Business Building.

    Once the review has been completed, the student will be notified by email. If the email address is not provided or is unreadable, notice of review completion will be sent to the student's UTA email account. The UMAP is viewable from a student's Service Center in MyMav. Printed UMAPS are not provided.

  • Veterans Affairs Documents

    Business Intended students (non-declared) who are Veterans and need to request a degree plan for Veterans Affairs at UTA should complete a Degree Worksheet Request and place it in the drop box located at the front office of the Business Advising Center, Suite 107 of the Business Building. Please allow 3-5 business days for processing.

    The student's completed request will be filed under the student's last name in the filing cabinet directly beneath the drop box in the front office of the Business Advising Center. We do not fax or mail degree worksheets to the VA. It is the student's responsibility to make sure the degree worksheet is submitted to the appropriate department by the required deadline.

    Declared Business majors who are Veterans and need to request a review of their UMAP for the VA should complete a Request for UMAP Review and place it in the drop box located in the front office of the Business Advising Center, Suite 107 of the Business Building.

    Once the review has been completed, the student will be notified by email.   • Request for Change of Catalog Year

    Advisor approval is required to change catalog years. Once the change is made, the student will not be permitted to revoke the change.

    To request a change of catalog year, please visit the Business Advising Center in Suite 107 of the Business Building or contact our receptionist at 817-272-3368 to schedule an appointment with a Business Advisor.

    NOTE: Requesting a change of catalog year is NOT declaring a major. If the student wishes to change major from outside the College of Business, or if the student is changing or declaring majors within the college, then a Request to Change or Declare Business Major form must be submitted to the front office of the Business Advising Center, Suite 107 of the Business Building

  • Request to Change or Declare Business Major

    If the student wishes to change majors from outside the college to a business major or change business majors within the college, it is recommended that they meet with a Business Advisor to discuss degree options and requirements. To schedule an appointment with a business advisor, please contact our receptionist in the front office of the Business Advising Center, Suite 107 of the Business Building, or call her at 817-272-3368. The Request to Change or Declare Major can be completed during the advising appointment.

    Current business students seeking to declare a business major should be sure to check that they meet the requirements to declare a business major. If they do, then they should complete the Request to Change or Declare Major form and submit it to the front office of the Business Advising Center, Suite 107 of the Business Building.
