    UTA College of Business

Management Sciences Program

The doctoral program in Management Sciences allows students to choose a major field of study in either Operations Management or Business Statistics. A minor field is also selected, as a secondary area of specialization. The primary purpose of the Ph.D. program is to develop scholars with the skills and abilities to conduct independent research and teach. Although the large majority of Ph.D. graduates move on to successful research and teaching careers at other universities, some graduates choose careers in industry. While it is preferred that students attend full-time, to better focus on their research, part-time students are also admitted into the Ph.D. program.

Students work closely with faculty throughout their program to develop and conduct research projects, which lead up to their dissertation research. A typical time frame for full-time students in the Ph.D. program is about four years, which includes about two years of coursework, 6-12 months for comprehensive exams and dissertation topic preparation, and one year for dissertation research.

THE MANAGEMENT SCIENCES DEPARTMENT IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR NEW STUDENTS. PLEASE CONSULT THE GRADUATE SCHOOL CALENDAR FOR APPLICATION DEADLINE INFORMATION.
