Departmental scholarships

Overview of Departmental Scholarships
The Department of Accounting awards over $10,000 in scholarships to qualified accounting majors annually. These scholarship funds come from a number of sources including: endowed scholarship accounts, firms who recruit on campus, and professional associations.

Endowed scholarship accounts include:

Firms providing scholarship funds include:
     Grant Thornton
     McCaslin & Co.
     Pickens, Snodgrass, Koch & Co.
     Rylander, Clay & Opitz
     Whitley Penn

Professional associations providing scholarship funds include:
     The Dallas Chapter of the Association of Fraud Examiners

Most scholarships provide funding of $500-$1,000 per academic year for one year.
 
Criteria
In addition to scholarship-specific requirements, an applicant must meet each of the following criteria to be eligible for any departmental scholarship:
  • Have an accounting GPA of at least 3.0;
  • Have an overall GPA of at least 3.0;
  • Be an accounting major;
  • Have completed at least 12 semester hours of accounting (9 semester hours for graduate students) prior to the date of application;
  • Have at least one full-time semester remaining for degree completion after the semester of application; and
  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
Application Procedures
Applicants are required to submit the following documentation:
  • A completed scholarship application form (available below); and
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended (excluding UTA).
The completed application form and college transcripts should be placed in a sealed envelope and mailed to:

Scholarship applications are accepted during the period February 1 - March 15. Recipients are notified on or after April 1, and are
required to attend the departmental Spring banquet to receive the scholarship.

Application forms may be obtained in the departmental office, room 409 Business from 8 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. A downloadable copy of the scholarship application form is available below.
