|
Objective
The
BS-Accounting degree prepares students for accounting careers in industry or
government, and allows students to complete significant coursework in a related business discipline (economics,
finance, information systems, management, marketing). When coupled with
additional coursework, the degree will also prepare students for careers
in public accounting.
Coursework
The
BS-Accounting degree requires a total of 122 semester hours of work.
Included in this total are:
047 semester hours of general education
courses
033 semester hours of business core
courses
030 semester hours of accounting courses
012 semester hours of advanced business electives
122 total semester hours
For details see the
COBA Undergraduate Advising Center web page for the
BS-Accounting degree.
The selection of four advanced business electives (3000 and 4000 level
courses) is made in consultation with the undergraduate advisor. Due to
the widespread use of wordprocessing and spreadsheet software in the
accounting profession it is strongly recommended that ACCT 3304
(Software Tools) be selected as one of the student's advanced business
electives.
The area of concentration (if any)
selected by the student should be guided by his/her career goals. For
many students a concentration in Finance or Information Systems will be
the best choice.
