Terry J. Witt Endowed Scholarship

  • Purpose
  • The Terry J. Witt Endowed Scholarship was established to honor Terry J. Witt for the significant contributions he made to the University of Texas at Arlington while serving on the accounting faculty. Funding was provided by the University of Texas at Arlington; Pickens, Snodgrass, Koch & Co., PC; McCaslin & Company, LLP; the Gamma Phi Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi; the Accounting Society of U. T. Arlington; accounting alumni; U. T. Arlington accounting faculty; and friends of Terry J. Witt.
  • About Terry J. Witt
  • Terry J. Witt earned his BBA degree (1962) from the University of Texas at Austin and his MA degree (1968) from the University of Oklahoma. Shortly thereafter he became a Certified Public Accountant. He joined the faculty of the Department of Accounting at the University of Texas at Arlington in 1968 and was an Associate Professor when he retired in 2000. In the 32 years he spent at the University of Texas at Arlington, he taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of financial accounting, managerial accounting, and taxation. He was an outstanding and enthusiastic teacher, and served as mentor to many students. He was nominated for the Chancellor’s Council Teaching Excellence Award five times and recognized as Outstanding Faculty Member by Beta Alpha Psi and the College of Business Constituency Council. Accounting students benefited greatly from his 25 years of service as coordinator of the Student Internship Program.
  • He ably served the accounting profession with many acts of dedication and selfless leadership. He helped found the Mid-Cities Association of CPAs and served as President and Member of the Board of Directors. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Ft. Worth Chapter of CPAs and many committees of that organization. His dedicated service greatly benefited these organizations and the accounting profession, and also served to enhance the reputation of the University of Texas at Arlington.
  • In recognition of his commitment to the superior education and professional growth of students, and his exemplary dedication to scholarship, citizenship, and professionalism, the title of Professor Emeritus was conferred upon him by the University of Texas at Arlington in 2001.
  • Criteria
  • To be eligible for the Terry J. Witt Endowed Scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:
    1. Be a declared accounting major currently enrolled (or intending to enroll) in an accounting degree program at UTA;
    2. Have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours of accounting courses (9 semester hours for graduate students) or have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university;
    3. Have achieved a minimum overall GPA of 3.25 and a minimum GPA of 3.25 in accounting courses completed at an accredited college or university;
    4. Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States; and
    5. Have at least 9 semester hours of study remaining to complete an accounting degree at the University of Texas at Arlington.
