The Lee and Gloria Rorex Memorial Scholarship

 Purpose

Established by Mary Lee Rorex Hodge and friends to honor the memory of her parents, Lee and Gloria Rorex.  This endowment was established to assist the University to recruit and retain quality academic students from North Central and Northeast Texas. Scholars should be referred to as the Lee and Gloria Rorex Scholars.

About Mary Lee Rorex Hodge

Mary Lee Rorex Hodge is a UT Arlington alumnus who received her BBA Accounting degree in 1984 and her Masters of Science in Taxation in 1989. Mary Lee graduated from David W Carter High School in Dallas.During the early 1990s, she taught full-time as an instructor for the Department of Accounting and also served as graduate advisor and assistant department chair. Later, she was the budget and financial officer in the Office of the Provost at UT Arlington.

 Criteria:

(1)    Students will have graduated from high schools in Dallas, Tarrant or Harrison counties;

(2)    Can be a undergraduate or graduate student with preference given to a full-time student;

(3)    Have an accounting and overall GPA of at least 3.0;

(4)    Must intend to study in the College of Business with further preference given to students who intend to major in Accounting;

(5)    Have completed at least 12 semester hours of accounting (9 semester hours for graduate students) prior to the date of application and be currently enrolled;

(6)    Have at least one full-time semester remaining for degree completion after the semester of application;

(7)    Candidate must apply in writing and preference will be given to those identified as first-generation-college bound.
