FAQs: Graduate General Questions

Q:
How do graduate accounting students receive information (student group activities, job opportunities, new course offerings, degree changes) on an on-going basis?
A:
Important information is posted on the bulletin board outside the Department of Accounting office (room 409 Business). Also, copies of important announcements are posted on the departmental website under the menu selection Announcements.

Q:
Who advises graduate accounting students?
A:
Ms. Carly Andrews advises all master's students in accounting (MPA, MS-Accounting, and MS-Taxation). She is available on an appointment basis to visit about degree planning and course selection. An appointment can be made by calling 817-272-3047. She can be reached by e-mail at candrews@uta.edu.

Q:
I would like to take a few graduate accounting courses but do not plan to pursue a graduate degree. What options are open to me?
A:
Individuals who hold an earned undergraduate degree from an accredited university and have a GPA of at least 3.0 may be admitted to the Graduate School as a 'Special' (non-degree) seeking student. An applicant for 'Special' student admission status must submit a completed 'Special Student Application' form and official transcripts of previous college work showing evidence of an undergraduate degree (GMAT scores are not required). Special student admission status is granted for the semester for which the application is submitted and individuals admitted under this category are limited to completing 12 semester hours of graduate work. For additional details see the discussion under the heading 'Special Students' in the graduate catalog.

Q:
Does UTA have any accounting related student organizations?
A:
Yes, we have several active student organizations: the Accounting Society and Beta Alpha Psi. Both organizations sponsor a number of activities each Fall and Spring, including member meetings (with guest speakers), field trips, and socials. Participation in one or both of these groups is strongly encouraged because
it provides an opportunity to meet and network with other students, faculty,
and recruiters.
