FAQs: Graduate Admission

Q:
What are the entrance requirements to pursue a master's degree in accounting at UTA?
A:
Admission decisions are based on factors associated with academic success in graduate study and may include any of the following criteria: (1) undergraduate grade point average, (2) graduate grade point average,(3) GMAT scores, (4) professional work experience, (5) professional certification or licensure, (6) letters of reference, (7) the applicants personal statement, (8) prior successful completion of a baccalaureate degree, (9) prior successful completion of a postbaccalaureate degree, and (10) general and specific program accreditation status of the applicants degree granting institution(s). Standardized test scores are not used as the sole criterion for admitting applicants or denying admission to applicants.

In addition to the above, international students must present a TOEFL score that equals or exceeds 550.

Further details may be obtained from the Master's Admission Criteria section of this website.

Q:
What if I begin the application process but am unable to submit all of the required documentation before the admission deadline?
A:
If an applicant is fully qualified, yet some of the confirming paperwork has not been received, the applicant may be admitted on a 'provisional' basis. This means the individual can enroll for one semester during which he/she is required to complete the admission process. For additional details see the discussion under the heading 'Provisional Admission' in the graduate catalog.

Q:
Are all applicants required to submit a GMAT score to obtain unconditional admission to a graduate degree program?
A:
No. Under departmental admission guidelines there are four different ways that an applicant can be unconditionally admitted without submitting a GMAT score. These circumstances are explained in detail on the Master's Admission Criteria section of this website under the following headings:

Admission Set #2: GMAT Waiver Condition

Admission Set #3: Advanced Admission Condition
Admission Set #4: Professional Credential Condition
Admission Set #5: Successful Postbaccalaureate Education Condition

Q:
How do I apply for admission, and what documents must be submitted with my application?
A:
The easiest way to apply for admission is to go to the Graduate School's  Admissions Center and apply online, or request application materials, or download application materials. You may also request application materials via telephone at 817-272-2688.

In addition to submitting your application, you will need to have official transcripts of your prior college work forwarded to UTA, take the GMAT exam and have the official score sent to UTA (if applicable), pay the application fee, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be forwarded to UTA (the recommendation forms can also be downloaded from the Graduate School website). If you are an international student there are additional admission criteria and procedures which can be obtained from the Graduate School.

Further details are provided on this website under the link: How to apply for admission.

Q:
Are all applicants for admittance to a graduate degree program required to utilize the normal application process?
A:
No. Applicants who meet all of the conditions listed below use the 'advanced admission' process. Students who qualify for advanced admission are not required to submit a GMAT score nor are they required to pay an application fee. The conditions that must be met are:
  • Graduated no more than one year prior to entrance into the graduate program
  • Graduated from UTA
  • Majored in accounting at UTA
  • Has a 3.5 GPA in all undergraduate work at UTA
  • Has a 3.5 GPA in all advanced accounting work (3000 and 4000 level accounting courses) at UTA
Individuals seeking admission via this process must meet with the graduate advisor to confirm their eligibility and review other admission matters.

Q:
I have applied for admission, but have not heard anything yet. How can I check on the status of my application?
A:
You can get detailed information about your application by visiting the Application Status link of the Graduate School website.
