2013-2014 Maverick Promise
UT Arlington will continue to offer the Maverick Promise for 2013-2014. The Maverick Promise is not a specific fund but rather a combination of grants including the Federal Pell Grant and all other federal, state, and institutional grants to pay between 60% and 100% of the cost of tuition and fees for the fall and spring terms.
Maverick Promise Criteria
Students must meet ALL of the following criteria:
- Be an undergraduate student paying the in-state tuition rate
- Be eligible for the Federal Pell Grant
- Be admitted to UT Arlington by April 1, 2013*
- Complete and submit all financial aid application forms so that they will be received in the Office of Financial Aid by April 1, 2013
- Maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average at UT Arlington
- Have a family income of $65,000 or less

To begin the financial aid application process, students must complete the 2013-2014 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and include the UT Arlington school code (003656).
A number of FAFSA applications are selected by the U.S. Department of Education for a process called verification which means that UT Arlington is required to collect additional documents from the applicant. Therefore, it is important that students complete the FAFSA and file the appropriate 2012 federal income tax returns at least 3 weeks prior to the Maverick Promise deadline and respond promptly to requests for additional documents. Financial aid applications are not considered to be complete until all required documents are received by the Office of Financial Aid. Typical verification documents include IRS tax transcripts for both the parent and student if the IRS Data Retrieval option was not used when the FAFSA was completed and the Verification Worksheet.
Students who do not meet the Maverick Promise criteria may be eligible for a limited amount of grant funding to assist with paying tuition and fees. These need based grant awards will be made on a first-come first-served basis and amounts will be determined by the information provided on the FAFSA. Due to reduced funding levels, students who are admitted or who submit financial aid documents after April 15, 2013 are unlikely to receive grant funding beyond the Federal Pell Grant if eligible.
Students may be eligible for additional funds though loans and the Federal Work Study program to cover other educational expenses such as textbooks, and room and board.
UT Arlington reserves to right to reduce or cancel the amount of the Maverick Promise awarded to students who receive other scholarship assistance, grant assistance, veteran's benefits or other tuition waivers that are designated to cover all or part of the cost of tuition and fees.
